About

Stephen does not have the mental capacity to function normally and live on his own. One of his parents’ biggest, long term worries was, “What will happen to Stephen when we are gone? Where will he live? Who will take care of him?”

Fortunately, Stephen lives in a lovely assisted living home in Kentucky. It’s clean, it’s well run, he gets good food and all of his needs are met.

But, we want more for him. We want more for your adult mentally challenged family member or friend. Here’s the vision, and we’ll talk about the vision as if it already exists. Because it will. Because it is coming.

The Stephen D. Home is a breathtakingly beautiful, rustic looking two-story home (initially for fifty residents). The operative and most important word here is Home.

Our home is nestled among 30 wooded acres.

The complex includes:

• The St. Jude Chapel
• Outdoor pavilion for picnics, family gatherings, wedding receptions
• Walking and biking trails
• Picnic areas with tables and grills
• Playground with swings, slides, seesaws, monkey bars, horseshoes games, miniature golf
• Our horticulturalist/gardener encourages resident participation and supervises the vegetable garden, fruit trees and vines, flower gardens. All fruits and vegetables supplement purchased groceries. Fresh flowers are a part of the bright, homey ambiance.
• Chicken house and yard for the enjoyment of the residents and for fresh eggs and meat. We’ll incubate and hatch new chicks each year.
• One or two dogs and cats for the enjoyment of the residents; possibly other animals as well
• Pond for outdoor recreation, fishing, relaxing and for a source of water to heat and cool the complex
• Windmills to generate electricity
• Green/LEED Construction
