Economic Impact
One of the goals for the Stephen D. Home is to make a difference in a rural Arkansas community. Many rural communities have suffered the loss of manufacturing to other countries. As a result the tax base for quality schools, recreational facilities, and common public services is not available.
Employment. When completed, the Stephen D. Home will employ about # full-time staff and # part-time staff. Jobs will range from professional medical staff to food services and housekeeping to janitorial and groundskeeping. While not the same as a manufacturer, jobs at the Stephen D. Home will make a difference to many rural families.
Tourism. The Saint Jude Chapel at the Stephen D. Home will be a significant architectural attraction. Visible from several directions, the chapel will be the site of many weddings and other religious events. Visitors will need food, lodging, flowers, and last minute gifts. Additionally, the grounds are open to the public for picnics and recreation. That means last minute trips to a nearby grocer for drinks, ice, and snacks. Depending on the distance traveled, our visitors may also need to refuel for the trip home.
